Apostroph in person: Mariana Lopes
Mariana Lopes joined the Apostroph Zurich team exactly one year ago. Before that, she spent a number of years working in various sectors, after gaining a degree in translation with a major in multilingual communication. She’s travelled far and wide, with lengthy periods spent studying in New Zealand and Mexico, as well as in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Her outgoing personality and her readiness to engage with other cultures and people are a real asset when it comes to her role at Apostroph: she particularly enjoys duties that bring her into contact with clients and freelancers – managing projects, issuing invoices, preparing orders and providing IT/Trados support – but she’s equally happy concentrating in a quiet environment.
Summer! Mariana Lopes loves it, and you’ll often find her in the great outdoors, going for walks or swimming in the local lido. And then there are the Sunday family get-togethers: they’re as much part of her life as her Tolino e-reader. As a self-avowed bookworm, she won’t go anywhere without it – whether it’s swinging in a hammock or travelling on a tram. Her life maxim comes from one of her favourite reads – Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts: “If fate doesn’t make you laugh, you just don’t get the joke.” Mariana Lopes likes laughing – a lot of it at her own expense. Clearly, she’s got the joke.
