Interfaces and connections
API interface and connectivity – linked to your company
Simplify and accelerate your workflow with a connection to Apostroph. That way, you benefit directly from our language services such as translation, transcreation, machine translation, proofreading, comparative proofreading and re-reading without suffering the tedium of copying and pasting texts. Armed with the appropriate plug-in and add-on, you can incorporate our language experts directly into your content management system (CMS) or editorial system, e.g. ns.publish, SCHEMA, Woodwing, Xpublisher, Cosima/Docufy, Noxum, TIM/Fischer Technologies, Enlite/Confluence, Censhare, etc.: it’s the ultimate in connectivity.
A further advantage of this type of collaboration is that the right premium translation is inserted in the right place – automatically: your layouting specialist needn't worry about wrong text passages being copied in somewhere. Plan ahead – it's best to ask your CMS or editing system provider about the functionalities of the application in terms of its ability to cope with multiple languages. Not all providers offer multilingual content features.
Apostroph Group is already successfully operating a wide variety of interfaces with clients – the efficient way to submit orders, manage the process and import translated texts for your internal and external communications. The interfaces can handle almost any system, including editing applications, CMSs, DMSs, CRM or SRM applications, or whatever you use. We’ll find the most suitable exchange format or connect you to our myAPOSTROPH order portal via API. Read on for descriptions of the most common solutions. If you’ve implemented an in-house solution that's not listed here, don't hesitate to contact your Key Account Manager at Apostroph.
SAP Ariba and Tungsten Network
Simplification and digitisation of B2B procurement processes
Are you looking to simplify and digitise your procurement processes? SAP Ariba, Tungsten Network, Conextrade, Billexco and the like are used by many companies in the B2B segment today. These software solutions offer services such as electronic invoicing. Companies with international subsidiaries like the straightforward way their purchase order (PO) numbers are organised: costs relating to quotations and invoices are automatically and correctly assigned to the company's order numbers or cost centres. Apostroph Group has company accounts and interfaces with these software solutions. Our use of these services helps our clients boost efficiencies in their administrative departments and shorten their processing and payment paths.
That said, our clients' digital needs are also ideally met in conventional fashion by using a combination of our myAPOSTROPH order fulfilment portal and electronic invoicing.
Please don't hesitate to contact your Apostroph project manager: we can tell you all about our company accounts with the various software providers and this helps that the client relationship to you can be established. That way, you too can benefit from optimisation in the administrative area going forward.
ns.publish – the one-click wonder
Does your company use ns.publish for its publishing requirements? A fully automated interface built into the myAPOSTROPH order portal provides one-click ordering of translations and other linguistic services. You can leave the rest to us.
This is how it works: clicking on "Start translation" initiates the fully automatic translation order process. Your regular Apostroph Group translator then carries out the translation in accordance with the proven and certified ISO 9001 and ISO 17100 standards. We then transfer the translated text directly into ns.publish, and you click on "Accept" to import it into the editing application.
- Translations initiated by means of a single click
- Elimination of human error: no manual copying/pasting
- Edits and subsequent translations possible at any time and fully traceable
- Translations carried out by your regular translator – guaranteed
- The standardised translation process is an ideal complement to the automated interface: repeat texts are always translated the same way
- You benefit financially from matches with your company’s translation database
- Files SSL-encrypted during transfer
- Apostroph provides free hosting in Switzerland of your language database – guaranteed
- You benefit from time-to-market optimisation
Interface with your WordPress website
WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that’s often used for building and maintaining a website. As you would expect, the application is also suitable for multilingual websites.
We recommend the WPML multilingual plug-in for translating your WordPress website (WPML stands for WordPress Multilingual Plugin). The plug-in is affordably priced, and it's even better value for money if you take into account its many benefits:
- Use of this plug-in means the texts of your website can be exported in XLIFF format with a simple click: no copying or pasting is necessary
- This export step can be done by you – or by Apostroph, which can also organise the entire translation up to and including re-importing the texts to where they belong
- XLIFF (XML Localisation Interchange File Format) is used for exchanging localisation data. The format is ideally suited for seamless further processing in the translation – no post-formatting is required
- The translation is performed in the usual environment with the help of translation memory and terminology databases created especially for you
- Once the translation process according to ISO 17100 has taken place, the premium translations are uploaded directly into WordPress
- The texts are translated promptly and consistently and appear in exactly the right place in your CMS
Integration in the SCHEMA editing system
If you use the SCHEMA editing system for your technical or pharmaceutical editing or for your marketing or in-house documentation, we can help you with any foreign-language content. SCHEMA’s data export uses the ST4 document manager: the underlying interface is XML-based and operates according to the check-out/check-in principle. The file type that defines which parts of the document are controls (and which therefore don’t require translation) is automatically created by the system. You forward this file type to us and we’re ready to go: simply export the files in the XML format, and we translate them in line with ISO 17100. We provide you with the free myAPOSTROPH application for secure file exchange purposes: download the finished premium translation from there and import it back seamlessly into SCHEMA. There’s no formatting or copying required –the whole process is secure and quick.
Localisation manager for the Typo3 CMS
We recommend use of the free l10n Manager for working with the Typo3 CMS. This is a localisation manager, i.e. an application that lets you download Typo3 texts in a format that can be seamlessly translated using our CAT (computer-aided translation) applications. Of even greater relevance for you is the fact that the translated text is just as easily fed back into Typo3, ensuring that the right translation appears in the right place.
Simply use our free myAPOSTROPH order portal to submit your order.
Working with the Drupal CMS
Drupal is an open source content management system and framework and is often used to organise websites. If you have texts in Drupal that you would like to have translated, we suggest you download Drupal’s XLIFF tool. This converts the text into XLIFF (XML Localisation Interchange File Format), which makes it ideally suited for processing with our CAT applications. At the end of the process, you simply convert the premium translation back to HTML using the XLIFF tool and load the content directly into your CMS's target language. Simply use our free myAPOSTROPH order portal to submit your order.
Machine translation from Google and others
Would you like your business to benefit from a blend of the latest technology and artificial intelligence? Depending on the type of text, language combination and subject matter, machines such as Google (Google Translate), DeepL and others can prove useful. Click on the link below to find out more about “neural translation” – which is what Google Translate, DeepL and others offer – and how we can integrate these useful resources into your project.
An important item of information before the project starts is the data classification (definition of confidentiality and data protection) that you should perform for your translation projects. You need to distinguish between general texts, those containing personal information and those that are confidential.
“Personal/private engines” represent an alternative to artificial intelligence (which uses neural machine translation and publicly available data pools) and are suited to texts involving confidential data. A certain minimum annual volume is required to be able to amortise the costs of installation, training and maintenance with an attractive sales price for the translation. Let us advise you – we're human, and we won't use artificial intelligence!
CAT: computer-aided translation
The CAT we’re talking about doesn’t have claws, but it does bristle with the latest technology. CAT tools have been aiding professional translators for decades by remembering previously translated segments and existing glossaries/technical terminology. CAT stands for computer-aided translation. Compatible with numerous file formats, CAT enables the translator to work on the text itself rather than have to mess with the raw data.
The market is populated with a number of CAT applications; Apostroph works with SDL Trados, Across, MemoQ and STAR Transit to name but four. Our translators work online on our server using encrypted data lines.
Clients are assigned their own translation memory, ensuring that their data is only available for their own projects within the securely encrypted network. On request, translators can also work together on larger projects, offering each other feedback and benefiting from texts that have already been translated. Imagine, for example, a 100 to 200-page training manual or annual report, allocated to different translators according to subject area, module or section. Depending on the project, we can tailor a solution to your requirements that ensures the punctual delivery of your project by the agreed date.
Apostroph Group is able to work directly with all the common file formats, which minimises the amount of DTP work you have to do. Here are some of the files, file types and formats we cover:
MS Office, OpenOffice, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, csv, InDesign, XML, IDML, InCopy, ICML, QuarkExpress, PageMaker, Interleaf, Framemaker, HTML, SGML, XML, XLIFF, TMX, TBX, SVG, etc. This list is not exhaustive. Our team is at your disposal for testing purposes and for checking the possible applications.
